KASHRUT STATUS OF FOOD DROPS

by CK on December 20, 2021 in Rav
Food drops have become popular with the Jewish Community in recent times. A food drop is where kosher caterers provide sealed containers at any function not supervised by a CK mashgiach (supervisor).

It is important to note that when food is “dropped” at a home or an event where there is no CK-approved mashgiach in attendance, only the food contained in CK-labeled, sealed food containers is certified as Kosher by CK. The food is kosher under the authority CK up to the point when the sealed packages have been opened or tempered with. This is in line with best practice of Kashrut organisations worldwide.

Similarly, the food served at a “full-service” function is fully under the authority of CK whilst a CK certificate is available and a CK mashgiach is present.
